Hockey Announces Captains for 2022-23

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – With the 2022-23 season fast approaching, Notre Dame hockey and head coach Jeff Jackson announced captains for the upcoming campaign Tuesday afternoon. Returning graduate student Nick Leivermann will serve as captain with Trevor Janicke and Landon Slaggert named alternates.

“These three young men are great representatives of our program and University,” Jackson said. “They have shown a high level of commitment in every aspect of being a student-athlete at Notre Dame. They have each grown as young men and as leaders.”

Now in his fifth year with the Irish, Leivermann previously spent time as alternate captain in 2021-22. The Eden Prairie, Minnesota native has skated in 118 games for the blue and gold, tallying 17 goals and 41 assists. The defenseman boasted a career-high 27 points last season which ranked second on the team and sixth among league defenders. In addition to leading his team this season, Leivermann was named preseason honorable mention by the Big Ten conference.

Janicke will serve in a captain role for the first time in his Irish career. The senior from Maple Grove, Minnesota has appeared in 106 games in his Irish career, recording 27 goals and 20 assists for 47 points. In 2021-22, Janicke doubled his career points tally with 15 goals and nine assists for 24 total points.

Slaggert earned alternate captain titles after proving strong leadership skills in his first two seasons with the Irish. The preseason All-Big Ten First Team honoree will assume captain duties alongside Leivermann and Slaggert. The junior forward finished third on the team in goals last season (12) and points (26).

Away from the rink, all three are heavily involved in the South Bend community, participating in various initiatives including Irish youth hockey and the 525 Foundation.

“I am excited to watch them embrace our culture and build this team into something special. Congratulations to Landon, Trevor and Nick,” Jackson concluded.
