CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 10 Virginia field hockey team (4-3, 0-1 ACC) hosts No. 11 Syracuse (7-1, 1-0 ACC) in their lone game of the week on Friday, Sept. 23 at 4 p.m. at Turf Field.

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • The Cavaliers fell one spot in this week’s NFHCA rankings but remain in the top 10 for the third-straight week after being ranked No. 12 in the preseason poll
  • The Cavaliers are coming off a 3-2 victory last week against No. 13 Saint Joseph’s
  • Syracuse, ranked No. 11 in this week’s poll, is the sixth ranked opponent UVA has faced this season. James Madison and Temple were both unranked when Virginia faced them but have both moved into the rankings since, with JMU coming it at No. 21 this week and Temple at No. 24. Temple’s only loss this season is to Virginia
  • There is only one team on Virginia’s schedule that has not been ranked this season: Kent State. Miami (Ohio) was ranked No. 24 in last week’s poll but has slipped out of the top 25 this week
  • Senior Laura Janssen leads the Cavaliers with six goals this season. She ranks fifth in the ACC in goals per game (0.86)
  • Janssen has six goals in seven games this season
  • Janssen has scored her six goals on 10 shots on goal
  • Sophomore Noa Boterman scored her third goal of the season at Boston College
  • Junior Meghen Hengerer has three assists this season. She is tied for fifth in the ACC with 0.50 assists per game
  • Senior Adele Iacobucci scored the game-winning goal against Saint Joseph’s. A different Cavaliers has scored the game-winner in each of UVA’s victories this season
  • Freshmen Jet Trimborn and Caroline Nemec both got their first career starts against Saint Joseph’s
  • Seven of Virginia’s eight freshmen have appeared in games this season and five have been at least one starting lineup. Freshman Madison Orsi has started every game this season

NOTING SYRACUSE

  • The Orange are fourth in the nation in scoring, averaging 4.0 goals per game
  • Goalkeeper Brooke Borzymowski leads the ACC and is ranked fifth in the nation with a 0.71 goals-against average. She ranks second in the ACC with a .737 save percentage
  • Quirine Comans and Charlotte de Vries are tied for the conference lead in scoring, averaging 1.00 goals per game
  • Comans also leads the league in points per game…
