CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 9 Virginia field hockey team (3-3, 0-1 ACC) returns home to host No. 13 Saint Joseph’s (4-2, 1-0 A-10) on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. at Turf Field.

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • The Cavaliers remained at No. 9 in this week’s NFHCA Coaches Poll. The team entered the season at No. 12 in the poll
  • Virginia is coming off a 3-2 loss at No. 1 Northwestern last Sunday and a 2-1 setback in the ACC opener on Friday night at Boston College
  • Noa Boterman scored UVA’s goal at Boston College. She has three goals this season including the game-tying goal in the final minutes of the JMU game that forced overtime
  • Senior Laura Janssen has five goals in six games to lead the Cavaliers in scoring
  • Janssen has already matched her offensive output of last season when she scored five goals in the season. Her best offensive season was her sophomore year (2020-21) when she scored nine goals in 18 games
  • Janssen has 26 career goals and 55 career points
  • Janssen is tied for sixth in the ACC at 0.83 goals per game
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Kennedy matched her career high with eight saves at Northwestern. It was the third time in her career she logged eight saves in a game including in the season-opener at Penn State
  • Freshman goalkeeper Jet Trimborn made her collegiate debut in the second half of the Boston College game. Trimborn played 24 minutes. She did not face a shot
  • With Trimborn’s debut, seven of UVA’s eight freshmen have appeared in games this season
  • Virginia’s three losses this season have been by a single goal. Last season, all nine of UVA’s losses were by one goal including a 1-0 loss in overtime to Boston College in the regular season
  • In the spring of 2021 (the second half of the split COVID season), UVA went 3-4, with the final three of those losses coming by one goal, including two overtime losses. UVA’s last 15 losses have all been by one goal
  • This is the 50th season of Virginia field hockey. Field hockey was one of three women’s sports to begin at UVA in 1973-74 along with basketball and tennis
