BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 18 Wake Forest field hockey team completed a weekend sweep, defeating Cal, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at Underhill Field.
Wake Forest (3-2) heads back to Winston-Salem on a three-match win streak, outscoring opponents 18-2 in those victories. This marks the most goals scored in three-consecutive matches since the 2017 season (18 goals, Oct. 1- Oct. 8).
Wake Forest’s early offensive attack was led by Meike Lanckohr and Grace Delmotte as the pair added unassisted goals in the first period before Lanckohr found Delmotte in the second quarter to give the Deacs a 3-0 lead at the intermission break.
After the Bears (1-5) found the scoreboard in the third quarter, Wake Forest used the combination of three unanswered goals off penalty corners and stifling defense in the final 29 minutes to secure the 6-1 victory.
Lanckohr, Ashley Hart and Sky Caron netted Wake Forest’s trio of fourth quarter scores to clinch the win. Overall, the Deacs dominated the ball in the final period with eight shots and seven corners.
Lanckohr has scored a team-high six goals in the last three matches while Delmotte tied her career high with her pair of scores in the Sunday victory. With her goal in the 53rd minute, Hart set a new career best with three goals this season.
Ellie Todd made her third-straight start in goal, tallying 31 minutes of game action before Tori Glaister took over and blanked the Bears. Overall, the duo faced just one shot on goal.
