COLUMBUS, OhioMalen Iglesias, an incoming graduate transfer on the Ohio State field hockey team, is part of a pretegious group of 156 female student-athletes from across the country who are nominees for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year award.

The Woman of the Year Selection Committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, now will choose 10 nominees from each division for the national Top 30 honorees. The Top 30 honorees, chosen from the 156 conference-level nominees, will be announced in October. From there, the selection committee will narrow the pool to three finalists from each division, for a total of nine student-athletes — one of whom will be named the 2022 Woman of the Year.

At January’s NCAA Convention in San Antonio, the national Top 30 honorees will be celebrated, and the NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced, as selected by the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics.

Rooted in Title IX, the NCAA Woman of the Year program has recognized graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership since its inception in 1991. For more information about the program and previous winners, please visit ncaa.org/woty.

Inglesias is the nominee from 30 independent and nonprimary conference nominations submitted by schools. She competed for the last four years at Fairfield University, which is a member of the Northeast Conference for field hockey and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference for the remainder of its varsity teams.

Iglesias was selected to the NFHCA All-Region team in 2021 and collected the NEC Player of the Year award to go along with All-NEC honors, the third team she received those accolades during her career. Fairfield won the 2021 NEC Tournament and earned the league automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Over her four years at Fairfield, Iglesias had 19 goals and 12 assists for 50 career points, averaging nearly a point per game over her 66 appearances.

An excellent student, Iglesias was selected as the Northeast Conference Scholar-Athlete Of The Year in February of 2022. Additionally, she appeared on the NEC Academic and Commissioner’s Honor Roll in each of the last three years.
