ICE HOCKEY - Solihull Vixens gear up for play-offs with thrilling draw against Guildford

SOLIHULL Vixens finished the season with a thrilling 6-6 draw against Guildford Lightning which acts as a dress rehearsal before the pair meet in the semi-finals of the play-offs.

The Vixens led one-nil at the end of the first period thanks to captain Saffron Allen’s breakaway goal.

And Solihull maintained their lead at the end of the second period thanks to goals from Grace Garbett and Ila Hobbins.

However, Guildford finally drew level and took a three-goal lead with just seven minutes left to play after blitzing the Vixens with four goals in the space of seven minutes.

Solihull fought back in the final seven minutes to rescue an unlikely draw as Jodie Bloom struck before Katie Henry and Garbett restored parity with two goals in the final 66 seconds.

Vixens player Meg Burton was awarded Player of the Game as Solihull finished the Women’s Elite League season top of the table, nine points clear of Queen Bees in second.

Solihull take on Guildford on Saturday, June 4 in the play-off semi-finals with the face off at 2.45pm in Widnes with the final to take place on Sunday.
