WEST HAVEN — Lyman Hall trailed Wethersfield 6-3 with 1:09 on the clock at Bennett Rink on Tuesday night.
Head coach Dave Sagnella called in his Trojans one last time and implored them to keep their heads up as they stared down at defeat in the CIAC Division II hockey semifinals.
“Cherish the time that we have,” said Kenny MacKenzie, one of three senior captains in a graduation class of eight.
Wethersfield finished off the 6-3 victory that sends the third-seeded Eagles (17-6-2) to next Monday’s D-II state championship game against the winner of Tuesday’s second semifinal at Bennett between No.1 North Haven and No. 4 Sheehan.
For second-seeded Lyman Hall, the season closed at 19-6 with the second loss of the season to Wethersfield.
Jimbo Cohrs, Daniel Pettit and Aydan Durant were responsible for the three Lyman Hall goals Tuesday night. Durant’s came with 5:52 to play and brought Lyman Hall, which entered the third period down 4-2, within a goal at 4-3.
