Box Score CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The University of Maine women’s ice hockey team battled against the #4 Boston College Eagles on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles staked out a lead in the first on the back of four goals scored.
Their first came off of the stick of Abby Newhook. Her fourth score of the season came on a breakaway set up by Hannah Bilka (4) and Abigail Levy (1).
Boston College’s Bilka would follow up her assist with a goal of her own, another breakaway shot that found the back of the net. The goal was her second of the season. Abby Newhook (2) and Willow Corson (3) gathered in the assists.
The Eagles would go down a player late in the first, but Gaby Roy would get loose at center ice and go on to score her second of the season while down a player. Jillian Fey (2) and Kelly Browne (3) set up the breakaway score.
The Eagles first period barrage would come to a close on the score by Caroline Goffredo. Her second of the season would have the Eagles at a 4-0 lead at the end of the first. Katie Pyne (1) and Jillian Fey (3) picked up the assists.
Jorden Mattison, goaltender for the Black Bears, would be pulled after the first period. She stopped 9 of 13 shots faced.
Maine would draw closer during the second period as Morgan Trimper netted her first of the season. Following the dump in by Ida Kuoppala (3) set up by Ida Press (3), Boston College goalie Abigail Levy would mishandle the play and Trimper was there to capitalize on the play.
Loryn Porter would go on to blank the Eagles throughout the second period as she came in for relief of Mattison. She had 9 saves in the 2nd.
Maine would continue to battle back from the hole they found themselves in as Ally Johnson netted her second goal of the weekend to get the Black Bears within 2. The power play goal was Johnson’s fourth of the season. Ida Press (4)…
