Wolverines Facing Multiple Illnesses, Will Play Weekend Series Shorthanded
CHN Staff Report
Michigan defenseman Steven Holtz is in the intensive care unit at a Michigan hospital today, trying to battle a virus, according to a Facebook post from his mom, Sylvia Jacobs-Holtz.
Ms. Holtz posted the news this morning, asking for prayers, and saying that her son was on a ventilator with an unspecified virus.
Holtz is not the only one battling illness, which has swept through the team. Two weeks ago, starting goaltender Erik Portillo didn’t make the trip to Penn State because he fell sick. Last weekend, more players were sidelined. And this weekend, the Wolverines are expected to be seriously shorthanded when they host Minnesota. Exactly who is out of the lineup remains to be seen.
Holtz, however, had the worst reaction. The 6-foot-4 junior defenseman from White Lake, Mich., has played in 10 games this season, with an 0-3—3 line. He played in 11 games last season for the Wolverines.
