San Jose, CA – The San Jose Barracuda (7-5-0-1) spoiled longtime head coach Roy Sommer’s return to San Jose by shutting out the San Diego Gulls (5-9-0-0), 3-0, on Wednesday night at Tech CU Arena. Strauss Mann made 21 saves to earn his first career AHL blank sheet, as the Barracuda put a season-high 42 shots on net, including 15 in each of the first two periods.

In the first, the Barracuda outshoot the Gulls 10-0 to begin the game, and 15-to-5 in the opening 20 minutes. It wasn’t until 7:28 that San Diego would record its first shot, coming on the game’s first power play. Despite each team going on the man advantage in the first, the game would remain 0-0 after one.

In the second, Jasper Weatherby (2) would break the deadlock, lifting a backhander under the crossbar from the low slot, his second goal over his last three games. The Barracuda would finish the period outshooting the Gulls 15-to-5.

In the third, at exactly the five-minute mark, Thomas Bordeleau would feed Scott Reedy (3) on a two-on-one to give the Barracuda a 2-0 lead. San Jose would put the game out of reach at 17:43 when Reedy would spot Barracuda captain Andrew Agozzino (2) in the slot, and the former Gull would put it off the post and in, snapping a 10-game goalless drought.

Both Reedy (1+1=2) and Montana Onyebuchi (0+2=2) would finish with a pair of points while Mann earned his first career American Hockey League shutout and has now won his last two games.
