Boston College received a boost to its future goalie room with the addition of Jacob Fowler, a former Clarkson commit who was back on the market earlier this week.

Fowler is a 6-foot-2 goalie from Florida. In nine games this season for the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL) he has a 3.09 GAA and .900 save percentage. Last season Fowler appeared in 18 games and posted a 2.18 GAA and .927 save percentage. Prior to the USHL, Fowler played for the Florida Alliance and the Selects Academy.

Fowler was choosing between BC and Michigan.

BC had an opening for a goalie on its roster for next season. Mitch Benson is set to graduate. Henry Wilder is the only goaltender on the roster set to return next season and BC is also scheduled to bring in Slovakian goalie Jan Korec. Initially, Dylan Silverstein was set to be part of the BC roster this season as a goaltender but he left the school before the start of the season.

It’s not uncommon for decommits to pop up this time of year, as we noted last week. NLI time opened up last week and it is always interesting. I don’t know the situation with Fowler and Clarkson, and it could be completely unrelated to the NLI period recently opening, but it’s good to note that it’s not uncommon for a wave of decommitments this time of year.

The Irish are one of the more confusing teams in the country for me. Like a lot of people, I expected big things from this group but they’ve struggled to a 5-5-2 record to start. Surprisingly, they’ve struggled offensively (2.3 goals per game) despite having some firepower in their lineup (Rolston, Primeau, Pierson, Adams, etc.).

RIT continued to roll this weekend and the Tigers currently look like the team to beat in Atlantic Hockey. RIT swept Sacred Heart, which currently looks like the second-best team in the league, and has now won seven games in a row. RIT is 10-2 on the season. The Pioneers (6-4-1) had been chugging along as well until…
