Frozen Four Notebook: Boston University : College Hockey News

ST. LOUIS — The Terriers enjoyed a calm day on Wednesday, settling in to St. Louis for their third straight Frozen Four appearance.

While Boston University has been to the Frozen Four in the last three years, not a tremendous amount of players on the team have been here for all of them. It’s mostly Quinn Hutson, Devin Kaplan, Ryan Greene and Tristan Amonte. A higher number of players did have this experience last season.

The Terriers will skate Thursday into their first-ever matchup against Penn State. Last year the Terriers lost to Denver and the year before that to Minnesota. 

Third Time’s the Charm?

The Terriers have actually been to four Frozen Fours in the past 10 years (including this one) and haven’t won any. The last three years they lost in the semifinals.

“I’m personally going to use it a lot,” junior Quinn Hutson said. “Even guys that haven’t experienced this on our team, I think they’re going to look back and be like wow they didn’t do it before, and I think they’re going to want to do it for us.”

So, what’s the secret to finally actually winning one of these things?

“I couldn’t tell you,” senior Devin Kaplan said. “We’re just trying to live in the moment, take each play one play at a time, do our best that we can, and see where the game takes us.”

Rookies like Cole Eiserman have been taking guidance from the upperclassmen.

“I think it’s a very exciting week. … They just say that it’s a Game 7 mentality. You really have to win tomorrow,” Eiserman said. “We’re super grateful to be here, too. We gotta enjoy it, have the excitement as a good thing tomorrow and just play our style, don’t change anything.”

With More Time Off Comes More Responsibility …

The Terriers are no strangers to a bye week, especially in April, since they’ve had one the last three years. Sometimes it can be a learning curve for players and coaches, but the Terriers haven’t tinkered with their routine too much.

“The bye week is tough,” Quinn Hutson said. “It’s a lot of practice and just staying focused on what we’re practicing for. I think nobody wants to play more games than me. I get sick of practice just as much as the next guy. But I think [from] the last three years,…
