O’Brien, Harvey, Edwards named top-3 finalists for Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award

MADISON, Wis – Wisconsin women’s hockey standouts Casey O’Brien, Caroline Harvey and Laila Edwards were named top-three finalists for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, USA Hockey announced on Wednesday.

It marks the second time in 28 years that a single school has produced the three finalists for the highest individual honor in women’s college hockey after a trio of Minnesota players were selected as top-three finalists in 2013.

O’Brien, who was a top-three finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award last year,  has rewritten the UW record books this season. The Milton, Massachusetts, native set the school record for both career points with 269 and career assists with 173. The forward also set a new school record for assists in a season with 58, breaking her previous school record of 50 set last season. O’Brien also set the school record for points in a period with a five-point period on Feb. 1, 2025, against Bemidji State.

WCHA Player of the Year  O’Brien leads the nation with 83 points and 58 assists. The Wisconsin co-captain just tied for second in school history for points in a season and is five points away from breaking Meghan Duggan’s 87-point season in 2010-11. O’Brien’s two short-handed goals are tied for fifth best in the NCAA. The center’s 498 faceoff wins lead the WCHA and rank second best in the country. O’Brien’s 0.66 goals per game rank seventh best in the nation.

Harvey has posted historic numbers for a Badger blueliner. Her 58 points from 16 goals and 42 assists are the most in a single season from any blueliner in school history. Just a junior, Harvey has recorded 132 career points, passing Sis Paulsen for the most points in school history by a defender. For her performance this season, Harvey was named WCHA Defender of the Year for a second-straight year.

A co-captain on this year’s squad, Harvey’s 58 points this season are the most of any NCAA defender and rank fifth overall in the NCAA. Harvey’s 42 assists are the most of any defender and third most of any player in the nation. In the defensive zone, the Wisconsin co-captain helps lead a dependable Wisconsin defense. The Badgers held opponents to an NCAA-best 1.11 goals per game. On the penalty kill, Harvey helped the defense post a nation-leading 0.916 penalty killing percentage.
