New York Sirens Defeat Montreal Victoire 3-2 in OT – The Hockey Writers – PWHL

The New York Sirens hosted the Montreal Victoire on March 12 for their fourth matchup of the 2024-25 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) season. The Sirens were able to end their nine-game losing streak and took the victory 3-2 in overtime.

Seven minutes into the first period, the Sirens scored first. Elle Hartje sent the puck down the boards, where it was picked up by Jamie Bourbonnais. She took a shot and Abby Roque directed it into the back of the net to score the first goal of the game.

17 minutes into the first, the Sirens earned a penalty shot. Kristin O’Neill grabbed the puck away from Elizabeth Giguere as she tried to correct her shot chance. On the penalty shot, she skated up to Ann-Renee Desbiens, but the shot went wide.

With 35 seconds left in the first period, Dara Greig took a seat for high-sticking. New York couldn’t find a scoring chance here, but they would start the second period with 1:25 left on the extra player advantage.

Five seconds after the Victoire returned to full strength, they tied the game. Maureen Murphy skated the puck into Montreal’s offensive zone. She took a shot, which was blocked by Corinne Schroeder. Lina Ljungblom picked up the rebound, taking a shot which was also blocked. The puck stopped in front of Murphy, who took the third shot, and the puck slowly slipped into the goal past Schroeder.

Halfway into the second period, the Sirens extended their lead. Paetyn Levis took a shot on the net but Desbiens made the save. Sarah Fillier was near the net and was able to recover the rebound. With a tip-in, Fillier scored the second goal of the night for the home team.

With 1:40 left in the second, Jessie Eldridge and Mariah Keopple were sent to the box for roughing. The second came to a close, and the two teams would start the third 4-on-4.

5:10 into the third period, Sarah Fillier received a game misconduct and a five-minute major for a check to the head on Erin Ambrose. She took a seat and the Victoire had an extra player advantage for a decent chunk of time and they were able to capitalize on their chance halfway in. In the faceoff circle, Abby Boreen sent a pass to the blue line for Ambrose. She passed to Kati Tabin in the other faceoff circle. Tabin took the shot and tied the game for Montreal.
