Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Trade Nikolai Knyzhov To Grand Rapids Griffins For Future Considerations

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced they have traded defensemen Nikolai Knyzhov to the Grand Rapids Griffins in exchange for future considerations.

Knyzhov has one assist in six games with the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones and two goals and seven points in 14 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season.

The 26-year-old originally joined the San Jose Sharks as a free agent in 2019 and was eventually bought out in June 2024, he attended Pittsburgh Penguins training camp on a PTO before joining Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a PTO in November.

The Kemerovo, RUS., native has 12 points in 81 career NHL games and 28 points in 106 career AHL games.

The big, physical defender will provide a boost to the Grand Rapids blueline as the playoffs approach.
