The Minnesota Wild and Pittsburgh Penguins met up for their second time on Sunday afternoon, Mar. 9 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Their first meeting in Pittsburgh went in favor of the Wild 5-3. The Penguins were without Pierre-Olivier Joseph due to an upper-body injury while the Wild continued to be without Kirill Kaprizov, Joel Eriksson Ek, and Jonas Brodin.

The goaltending battle was between Tristan Jarry for the Penguins and Marc-André Fleury for the Wild in his final game against his former team. The game started out back-and-forth for both teams but the Penguins found the back of the net while the Wild didn’t. Sidney Crosby scored twice against his old teammate and the Peguins took the win 3-1. This moved the Wild to a record of 36-24-4 and the Penguins to 25-31-10.

The first period showed quite a few chances for both sides but both goaltenders made all the stops and kept the score 0-0. The second period started out the same way but the Penguins found a way through on the man advantage. Evgeni Malkin scored with just three seconds left on their power play to give his team a 1-0 lead. He was assisted by Kris Letang and Matt Grzelcyk and the period ended with the Penguins in the lead.
The Penguins added to their lead near the halfway point of the third as Crosby snuck one past his old teammate to give his team a 2-0 lead. He was assisted by Erik Karlsson and Rickard Rakell. The Wild answered back with a goal on the power play that Ryan Hartman scored to get his team back within one. Jared Spurgeon and Marcus Johansson assisted him. Sidney Crosby scored one more on the empty net and secured his team’s 3-1 win. The lone assist on the second Crosby goal went to their goaltender Jarry.
The Wild will remain home for six more games, with their next on Tuesday, Mar. 11, as they host the Colorado Avalanche. The Penguins will head back home to host the Vegas Golden Knights also on Tuesday.
