Ryan O’Reilly wasn’t interested in a reunion with the Maple Leafs at the NHL trade deadline.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Toronto reached out to the Nashville Predators about an O’Reilly trade. That, however, was shot down quite quickly by the 34-year-old forward.

“Toronto, as a matter of fact, looked into O’Reilly,” Friedman said during Sportsnet’s Trade Deadline broadcast, via the Toronto Star’s Kevin McGran, “and they were told he didn’t really have an interest in that reunion.”

The Maple Leafs acquired O’Reilly and Noel Acciari in February 2023 from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for several players and picks, including their first-rounder in 2023. O’Reilly and Acciari each helped the Maple Leafs win their first playoff round — against the Tampa Bay Lightning — since 2004.

O’Reilly scored seven goals and 17 assists in 24 games, in the regular season and playoffs with the Maple Leafs.

Once their playoff run ended against the Florida Panthers, Toronto attempted to sign the veteran forward. However, on July 1, O’Reilly signed a four-year, $18 million contract with the Nashville Predators.

“It’s definitely a treat and a privilege to play for an organization like that,” O’Reilly said, via Sportsnet. “If it ended up working out, I (would have been) happy there, but I just think this was the decision I wanted to do. My family thought it was better. We’ll see if it’s the right one. You never know, but so far, I’m enjoying it.”

O’Reilly has 16 goals and 24 assists for 40 points in 59 games with the Predators this season. Nashville sits 7th in the Central Division with 53 points.
