While it’s been reported that the Oilers are looking for an upgrade on the blueline, adding another capable goalie to push Stuart Skinner wouldn’t hurt.
That’s why the Oilers could be the perfect fit for New York Rangers goalie, Jonathan Quick. Here are three reasons the Oilers should make a deal happen for the veteran goalie.
The first thing that stands out about Quick is how inexpensive his contract is. The Rangers’ netminder is on an expiring deal worth $1.275 million. That’s about half of Skinner’s deal and a bit more than what Calvin Pickard is making.
Quick is also due a $25,000 bonus if he has a .915 save percentage (SV%) in 20 starts. He has started 16 games so far this year.

Quick is playing more than adequately for the Rangers this season. They also have a workhorse in their starting netminder, Igor Shesterkin.
The 39-year-old netminder has a 9-5-2 record, a 2.92 goals against average (GAA), a .903 SV%, and three shutouts in 20 games played.
Looking at fancier stats, Quick has a 2.0 goals saved above expected (GSAx). Among goalies who have played at least 20 games this year, Quick ranks 29th. For comparison, Skinner and Pickard rank 40th and 44th, respectively.
Quick has been a great goalie throughout his NHL career. Although his performance has waned recently, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t bring value to the Oilers’ goal.
