With the St. Louis Blues game officially underway against the Chicago Blackhawks, Ryan Suter has now played in 1,500 career NHL games.
Suter, 40, became the seventh defenseman and third American-born player in NHL history to play 1,500 games. He joins Matt Cullen, a former Wild forward (1,516 games), and Chris Chelios (1,651 games).
In his 20-year career, Suter has recorded 106 goals, 585 assists, 691 points and a plus-124 rating. He is currently being paid by three NHL teams this season. The Wild, Dallas Stars, and his current team the Blues.
Suter averaged at least 26:42 per game in each of his first seven seasons with the Wild. His 29:25 per game in 2013-14 is the most by any player since the NHL began tracking ice time in 1997-98.
After nine seasons in Minnesota, Suter had the final four seasons of his contract bought out in 2021. He signed a three-year contract with the Stars after that and was bought out in his final season by Dallas. He is on a one-year contract with the Blues at the age of 40.
In his Wild career, Suter had 55 goals, 314 assists, and 369 points in 656 games. He is still the Wild’s all-time leader in assists among defensemen. Jared Spurgeon is second with 286.
