The Laval Rocket has announced that defenceman Noel Hoefenmayer will be temporarily released to represent Canada at the Spengler Cup tournament.
“I’m really excited. It’s always an honour to wear the Canadian jersey. I got the call the other day and I was already thrilled to get the chance to represent Canada,” said Hoefenmayer.
He will join Team Canada following the Rocket’s game against the Springfield Thunderbirds on December 22nd and will return to the club in early January.
Acquired from the Bakersfield Condors on December 6, the 25-year-old Ontario native has tallied eight points in 12 games so far this season. Over the course of 150 games in the AHL, the Canadian-born defenceman has accumulated 73 points.
Hoefenmayer also earned an assist in his first and only game with the Laval Rocket this season, which took place on December 15 against the Bridgeport Islanders.
Team Canada will play its opening game against the host team, HC Davos, on December 26. The tournament final will be held on Tuesday, December 31.
