As you never change a winning recipe, the Rocket de Laval is back with its traditional Teddy bear toss match on Saturday, December 7, 2024, in collaboration with the Service de police de Laval. Since the Rocket’s inception in 2017, the Laval club has held its annual Teddy bear toss match, and this season will mark the sixth edition of this event that delights fans and organizations in the region alike.
What is the Teddy bear toss match?
Regulars love it and look forward to it. So for those of you who are new to it, here’s the simple concept. When the home team, the Rocket, scores its first goal of the game, fans are invited to throw their stuffed animals onto the ice. If no goal has been scored by the Rocket by the end of the second period, the stuffed animals are thrown at the second intermission.
Why throw stuffed animals on the ice?
Now that we understand the concept, why do we throw a bunch of stuffed animals on the ice? The stuffed animals collected during the game will be washed and then redistributed. For this sixth edition, the Rocket has teamed up with 50 organizations and initiatives to donate all the plush toys to children over the holiday season.
What should I bring to the game?
As many stuffed animals as possible! Please place them in a transparent bag to protect the quality of the playing surface. Also, for everyone’s safety, please select soft, battery-free plushies that are smaller than 1 meter.
Where does this concept come from?
To set the tone for the holiday season and the spirit of sharing, the Teddy bear toss game is always held during the holiday season. The first Teddy bear toss match was held in Canada in 1993! The Kamloops Blazers of the Western Junior League were credited with inventing the concept. Since then, the game has become a staple for junior and AHL teams, and the tradition has even spread to other sports.
How many stuffed animals are thrown onto the ice?
Every year, the Rocket tries to eclipse the mark it set the year before, in order to redistribute more stuffed animals to organizations and initiatives.
