CHN Staff Report
Let the usual controversy begin. We assure you, we don’t hate your team. Or, maybe more accurately, we hate everyone’s team.
Lots of tough calls as usual, but if a player just missed, it doesn’t mean we don’t think they’re good.
This is also about future potential, not what the player necessarily did last season. Something people often forget when analyzing some Top 10 or another.
Like every season these days, most of the top 20 scorers from last season signed pro deals. There are a smattering left behind.
After a bumper crop of defensemen in college hockey in recent years, so many have departed it seems relatively barren, with some notable execeptions — particularly Zeev Buium. Buium’s NHL stock seemed to rise all last year, then he inexplicably slipped a few spots on draft day.
The goalies are as strong as ever, and this was a tough call, with at least three goalies that could easily crack these teams. We try not to be persuaded just by “big names,” but in the end, still went with the ones that make NHL scouts drool most — Augustine and Fowler. It’s not something reflected on our site (yet) but Augustine had the best save percentage of any goaltender in the nation last year when facing high-danger chances.
