San Jose Sharks winger Danil Gushchin has been impressive in two preseason games.

Gushchin had a four-game cameo in the NHL last season but has come into 2024 training camp a different player. His speed and aggressiveness have been on full display during the preseason.
“He’s just got an extra gear, it looks like this training camp,” Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said on Friday.
Gushchin said he worked on becoming a quicker player during the offseason.
“[I worked on] my shot especially. In the NHL, you don’t have much time,” Gushchin said. [I] probably [worked on my] speed too, and work on the walls.”
Gushchin has found himself in dangerous offensive positions on almost every shift of the preseason. Warsofsky said that last Thursday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks was the best he’d ever seen the winger play.
“He was on pucks. He was tenacious. He was using his skating as he was getting under guys with his leverage,” Warsofsky said. “[That’s] something that we’ve talked with him about the last couple days, [it is nice] to see him get rewarded. Just the way he played tonight was really good.”
Thomas Bordeleau’s injury possibly opened a spot on the NHL roster for a borderline forward, and by the looks of it, Gushchin is making the most of his opportunity.
