Team Canada found themselves down a pair of goals after the first period, but just 86 seconds into the middle frame, Catton potted a power play goal to bring his team to within one. Quentin Musty took the two-goal lead back, and Catton proceeded to feed Jett Luchanko to make it 3-2 heading into the third period.
Catton would find himself on the scoresheet once again, assisting on a Denver Barkey goal, but Cole Eiserman would retake the lead halfway through the frame. Three minutes later, Kelowna Rockets star Tij Iginla would connect with Bradly Nadeau and Calum Ritchie to bring things even, and Canada took a 4-4 score into overtime.
Brodie Ziemer would eventually beat Brandon Wheat Kings goaltender Carson Bjarnason to take the victory for the USA, after a six-round affair.
Bjarnason was also very strong, making 27 of 28 saves in relief of Prince George Cougars netminder Joshua Ravensbergen.
The loss was the second of Canada’s two contests at the WJSS, after defeating Finland 8-6 on Aug 2.
