The Boston Bruins made several roster additions this offseason. The most notable of the bunch include Elias Lindholm, Nikita Zadorov, Joonas Korpisalo, Mark Kastelic, and Max Jones. Yet, they also added some depth pieces who should be watched.

One intriguing player who the Bruins signed this summer is forward Riley Tufte. The 6-foot-6, 230-pound winger is expected to compete for a spot on the Bruins’ roster next season. While the Bruins have some solid options for their bottom six, Tufte should not be ruled out.

Tufte is quietly coming off the best AHL season of his career in 2023-24. In 67 games, he set new career highs with 23 goals, 22 assists, and 45 points with the Colorado Eagles. He was also solid for the Colorado Avalanche when called up to the NHL, posting one goal, one assist, and eight hits in five games. After his solid AHL season, it is fair to wonder if he could sneak onto the Bruins’ roster.
It is also no secret that the Bruins want to be a bigger and tougher team, as their summer additions effectively display. Thus, it would not be particularly surprising if Tufte gets some chances on the Bruins’ NHL roster in 2024-25.
At 26 years old, Tufte still has some time left to take that next step and become an NHL-caliber talent. The 2016 first-round pick’s size and grit make him a rather interesting addition for the Bruins. If he cements himself as a fourth-liner with the Bruins next season, his $775,000 cap hit will be a steal.
