One more trip to The Prudential Center in Newark is in store for eight teams across state competing for four hockey state championships. Our team of MMJ’s will have wall-to-wall coverage from The Rock all day long, so stay tuned as the highlights roll in!

The Hermits battled hard to defend their title in the highest-scoring state championship game in New Jersey history. Third-seeded St. Augustine (15-5-1) brought a dominant offensive attitude to The Rock on Monday and it paid off with their second-straight Non-Public state championship. Robert Romarino, Ty Simonet and Cam DeLeo each had hat tricks and the trio accounted for all 10 Hermit goals in the win. No. 1 seed Don Bosco (24-3-1) only held the lead once in the state final – Erik Wrynn had a hat trick in the loss for the Ironmen.

Eli Singley’s first goal of the season in his final high school game came with 38.4 seconds left to break a 3-3 tie and give Morris Knolls/Hills a magical run to the school’s fifth state championship on the ice.  Governor Livingston had a 3-1 lead early in the second period before the Golden Eagles mounted their comeback.  Michael Simone made it 3-2 at the end of two periods and Luke McCloud’s 33rd goal tied the game with 9:14 to go.  Simone slid the pass across to Singley for the game-winner.  Morris Knolls was 8-10-1 in the regular season but rolled off five straight wins in the state playoffs to win the Co-Op title.
