Three Stars Awards Presented to Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin


ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Three Stars of the Week for hockey games played Feb. 23-24.
 
First Star

Jake Barczewski, Michigan

Gr. – G – O’Fallon, Mo. — Canisius (Atlantic Hockey)

  • Allowed just one goal in 120 minutes of action, helping No. 17/16 Michigan to a weekend sweep of Notre Dame
  • Recorded a 0.50 goals-against average and .980 save percentage (50 saves) in the series
  • Stopped a penalty shot on Friday and went 5-for-5 on the penalty kill
  • Receives fourth weekly honor of the season (1-First Star, 2-Second Stars, 1-Third Star)
  • Last Michigan Award winner: Jake Barczewski (Third Star, Feb. 6, 2024)

     

Second Star
Kyle McClellan, Wisconsin
Sr. – G – Manchester, Mo. — Mercyhurst (Atlantic Hockey)

  • Kept No. 6/6 Wisconsin’s Big Ten title hopes alive with a pair of wins in the Badgers’ road sweep against Penn State
  • Recorded his NCAA-leading seventh shutout of the season on Friday
  • Finished the series with a 0.98 goals-against average and .970 save percentage, killing all seven PSU power plays plus a five-minute major
  • Collects his fifth Star award of the season and the six of his career (2-First Stars, 2-Second Stars, 2-Third Stars)
  • Previous Wisconsin winner: Kyle McClellan (Second Star, Feb. 6, 2024)

     

Third Star
Gavin O’Connell, Michigan State
Fr. – F – Plymouth, Minn. — Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL)

  • Led Big Ten players with three goals as part of a four-point weekend versus Ohio State
  • Scored twice on Friday, recording his third-straight, multiple-goal game against the Buckeyes
  • Scored the decisive goal in the series finale and shares the team lead with four game-winning goals
  • Earns his second award of the year, was previously chosen a First Star on Nov. 7
  • Last Michigan State award recipient: Trey Augustine (Second Star, Feb. 13, 2024)
