How They Got Here
This is the first Annis Cup final, so there isn’t any championship history here for anybody.
Westfield topped third-seeded Cranford in the semifinals to reach this point. Payton Monusky ht the back of the net twice and both Lauren Delaney and Sarina Sherman added a goal and an assist apiece.
It marked the team’s fifth win in its last seven games. The team has scored at least five times in all of those contests and Westfield overall is 8-0 when scoring at least three goals.
Madison rolled to an 11-1 win over fourth-seeded Princeton in its semifinal bout.
Brooke Gundlach, Mia McSherry and Leah Jobe had two goals apiece in that win. In all, 13 different players registered at least a point. That win snapped a brief two-game skid.
Earlier Matchups
These two met twice already this season on Jan. 2 and Jan. 7.
Madison took the first game thanks in part to five unanswered goals after Westfield made it 2-1 in the second period. Mia McSherry had four points, Athena Halewicz had three and Maddie Santoriello, Brooke Gundlach and Leah Jobe had two each.
Westfield got its revenge five days later.
Miriam Walsh, Lauren Delaney and Sarina Sherman each found the back of the net in a 3-2 win. Sherman and Delaney scored to give their team a 3-1 lead in the second period and held on the rest of the way. Things got tense when Halewicz made it a one-goal game with 5:34 to go in regulation but Jolie Bruder shut the door from there in goal and finished with 16 saves.
