Men's Hockey to Play No. 1 BC for Second Time This Season in Beanpot Consolation

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Men’s ice hockey will face off against No. 1 Boston College for the second time this season in the Dunkin’ Beanpot consolation game on Monday. The consolation game is scheduled for a 4:30 PM puck drop from TD Garden.

The Crimson narrowly fell to Northeastern in the opening round of the Dunkin’ Beanpot after going to overtime for the second time in two games against the Huskies. Boston College’s comeback effort fell just short last Monday as the Eagles could not recover from a two-goal first-period against No. 3 Boston University in a battle between two top-5 teams.

THE OPENING ROUND

  • A tight battle with the reigning champions saw the Crimson head to overtime with the Huskies for the second straight game against the Huskies. Down 1-0 early the Crimson struck back after Boston native Ben MacDonald added the equalizer in the second period in his first-ever Beanpot game.
  • Ryan Healey was awarded a penalty shot after making his way through the Huskies’ defense on the power play in the second period. The attempt marked the first penalty shot for the Crimson this season and the first since Sean Farrell on February 24th, 2023.
  • Matthew Morden netted his first career goal in the third period to give the Crimson the lead. A shot from the point, Morden becomes the fourth rookie to score this season for the Crimson.
  • Three of the last six Beanpot goals have been scored by Crimson rookies after Matthew Morden joined Marek Hejduk as first-years to find the back of the net at the Garden.
  • Morden was the first Crimson defenseman to score in the Beanpot since Adam Fox in 2019.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Crimson came out with the extra point to close the season series with Dartmouth after another shootout.
  • A combined 25 rounds over two games it took extra frames yet again with Alex Gaffney scoring in the seventh round to end it.
  • Gaffney had a great evening after adding a goal in the third period and an assist to finish the game with two points and the shootout winner.
  • Marek Hejduk added his third goal in the last four games after picking the corner in the second period as part of a 3 goal second period.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION

  • Coming off a 1-1 week the top-ranked Eagles will play in the consolation game for the third year in a row.
