No. 14 Rumson-Fair Haven gets back on track, advances to Handchen semis

Second-seeded Rumson-Fair Haven, ranked No. 14 in the NJ.com Top 20, got back into the win column with a 3-1 victory over seventh-seeded Middletown South in the quarterfinal round of the Handchen Cup.

Rumson-Fair Haven’s last win came on Jan. 26, as the Bulldogs had most recently lost to Manasquan and tied with Gov. Livingston-New Providence.

The Bulldogs (11-5-2) jumped out a 3-0 lead after scoring a goal in each period – Liam Hackett in the first, Jacen Doumas on the power play in the second, and then Nik Doumas in the third. The only time that Middletown South (7-14) countered with a goal of its own was to cut the deficit to 3-1 when Ryan Nicholson scored with less than five minutes to play in the game.

Rumson-Fair Haven will play in the semifinal round, and awaits the winner of third-seeded Manasquan and sixth-seeded Middletown North.
