Girls’ Ice Hockey Wins a Trio, Boys’ Basketball Splits the Week

Girls’ Ice Hockey

The Hand girls’ ice hockey co-op team hosted Amity/Cheshire/North Haven on Jan. 10 and won 6-2. Faith Minickene had three goals and one assist, while Kendall Dobratz had one goal and one assist. Jaime DiNapoli contributed with two goals and one assist, and Taylor Manchanda had one goal and one assist. Raegan Wyrebek-Brasky also added one assist.

The team then played host to Woodstock Academy Co-op on Jan. 12 and won 7-3. Minickene had four goals and one assist, and Dobratz had two goals. DiNapoli had one goal and one assist, while Alexa Spaniotis added two assists.

The next day, the team rounded out the week with a 3-2 overtime win at home vs. Southington. Wyrebek-Brasky scored two goals, including the overtime goal. Dobratz added one goal and one assist, and Minickene had two assists.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The East Haven Co-op boys’ ice hockey team hosted Westhil/Stamford on Jan. 15 and won 8-1. The team went off for four goals in the first period. Lorenzo Defilio started the scoring, with an assist being credited to Carter McGlinchey. Defilio then scored again a few minutes later, with Griffin McGlinchey on the assist. John D’Albero also scored two shorthanded goals in the period, with assists coming from Landon Cantele and Griffin McGlinchey.

In the second frame, Preston Cantele scored an unassisted goal on a Power Play, Mike Savo with another Power Play goal, this time assisted by Ryan Bunnell. D’Albero also scored in the period, with Defilio on the assist. Finally, in the third period, Defilio scored an unassisted goal to wrap up the action. Mike Fritz allowed one goal in net, while recording 28 saves.

Two days later, the Yellowjackets played host to Daniel Hand and won 7-2 to continue their season dominance. Carter McGlinchey led off the scoring in the first period, with an unassisted goal. The team then tacked on three more goals in the second period. These were scored by Billy Demetriades (assisted by Preston Cantele and Nick Perillo), D’Albero (assisted by Griffin McGlinchey and Carter McGlinchey), and Griffin McGlinchey…
