Caron Backstops No. 2 Terriers to 3-0 Win over No. 16 New Hampshire

BOSTON – Junior goaltender Mathieu Caron stopped all 36 shots he faced for his first shutout as a Terrier, backstopping the No. 2 Boston University men’s ice hockey team to a 3-0 victory over No. 16 New Hampshire on Saturday night at Agganis Arena.

Caron was sensational all night for BU (14-4-1, 9-1-1 HE) for his fifth career shutout and first since Jan. 14, 2023, while he was with Brown. Eighteen of his saves came in the first period as he helped hold UNH (11-6-1, 4-3-1 HE) scoreless on three power-play attempts, including two full minutes of 5-on-3 time.

Graduate Sam Stevens scored the game-winning goal with 8:35 remaining in regulation, with freshman Macklin Celebrini doubling the Terriers’ advantage just 39 seconds later. Celebrini added an empty-netter with 1:57 to play for his third multi-goal game of the season. 

Seniors Luke Tuch and Dylan Peterson each added two assists while freshman Tom Willander and graduate student Cade Webber also recorded one assist apiece. Webber was even more immense on the defensive end, as he led BU with six blocked shots. The Terriers totaled 25 blocks as a team, with graduate captain Case McCarthy blocking five shots and sophomore Lane Hutson securing four blocks of his own.
