No. 2 Terriers Set for Friday Exhibition against Simon Fraser

The No. 2 Boston University men’s ice hockey team will return home on Friday night to host Simon Fraser in an exhibition contest at Agganis Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.

GOING FOR GOLD

  • Sophomore Lane Hutson (USA) and freshman Tom Willander (Sweden) will face off in the gold-medal game of the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship on Friday in Gothenburg, Sweden.
  • BU is the only school in the country that has a representative on both teams in the gold-medal contest.
  • Puck drop is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET, with the game being shown live on NHL Network and TSN.
  • Hutson had the primary assist on the game-winning goal in Thursday’s semifinal contest and was selected as one of Team USA’s top three players for the tournament.
  • He enters Friday as a plus-6 for the tournament, having notched six assists.
  • Willander recorded an assist and was a plus-3 in Sweden’s semifinal victory.
  • He is tied for the lead among all skaters as a plus-11; even more impressive is that he has not registered a minus during the entire tournament.
  • Willander has also tallied one goal and two assists for three points.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • BU opened the second half of the season with a 6-1 win at Yale on Dec. 29.
  • Senior Dylan Peterson and freshman Shane Lachance tallied two goals apiece while sophomore Devin Kaplan had a career-best three assists.
  • Graduate student Sam Stevens and sophomore Jeremy Wilmer each recorded two assists against the Bulldogs.
  • Sophomore Ryan Greene and junior Jack Hughes each lit the lamp.
  • Senior Luke Tuch, junior Ty Gallagher, sophomore Quinn Hutson and freshman Mick Frechette each collected one assist.
  • Frechette’s assist was his first collegiate point as he became the 21st different Terrier to record a point this season.
  • Junior Mathieu Caron made 23 saves to earn his 12th win of the year.
  • Caron owns a 1.51 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage over the last four games.
