AMESBURY, Mass. — Boston University forward Wilmer Skoog has been suspended by Hockey East for today’s league tournament championship game against Merrimack.

Skoog was suspended for his hit into the end boards against Providence defenseman Cam McDonald with 11:20 remaining in regulation of Friday’s semifinal.

According to Providence coach Nate Leaman, McDonald broke his hand in the incident.

That play came just minutes after Boston University defenseman Case McCarthy violently collided into the same end boards after getting tangled up with a Providence player. There was no penalty on that play. McCarthy went off the ice on a stretcher and reportedly has a broken collarbone.

Skoog has 14 goals and 29 points in 35 games this season for the Terriers. He is eligible to return for BU’s NCAA Tournament opener next weekend.
