CHN Staff Report

Mercyhurst University’s Office of Student Conduct and Department of Police and Safety are investigating an incident involving one of their men’s hockey players, the school said in a statement.

Though not identified by name, the statement acknowledged it was one of their athletes.

In a surveillance video from a bar that someone posted to Twitter, a person identified by witnesses as Carson Briere was seen pushing an unoccupied wheelchair down a flight of steps. According to witnesses, the woman who owned the wheelchair was in the bathroom at the time.

The school called the video “disturbing” in the statement.

Briere was dismissed from Arizona State’s hockey team three years ago for an unspecified violation of team rules. In a 2021 interview with College Hockey News, Briere admitted to “partying too much” and not taking hockey seriously.

After transferring to Mercyhurst, Briere has 23 goals in 82 games. He had 13-14—27 in his sophomore year, but his production dropped this past season.

Briere is the son of long-time NHL forward Danny Briere, who was recently named general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers.
