Kampersal Named Finalist For National Coach of the Year


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women’s ice hockey head coach Jeff Kampersal was named a finalist for the 2022-23 CCM/AHCA Women’s Ice Hockey Division I Coach of the Year as announced Monday, March 13.
 
Kampersal was named the 2022-23 CHA Coach of Year for the second time in his career earlier in March to qualify as a finalist for the award. The list includes the individual conference coach of the year winners and those coaches whose teams qualified for the NCAA semifinals. The full list can be found at the AHCA’s release.
 
He earns this honor following a record-breaking year, winning a program high 27 wins alongside having a CHA regular season and CHA tournament title belt. He also sent the team to its first NCAA tournament in program history.
 
Under Kampersal’s direction this season, the team comprised a total of 26 CHA weekly award winners, 12 CHA monthly award winners, and five All-CHA team selections. He’s produced a team that went on an 18-game unbeaten streak and been national ranked top 10 in the nation.
 
During this season, he also compiled is 400th-career win as a head coach and sits fifth in wins amongst present day coaches. At Penn State, Kampersal has recorded a 97-66-37 record (.578) since taking the reins of the Nittany Lion program.
