Suter joins top-five for NCAA NHL career games played


MADISON, WIs. – Wisconsin Badger and Madison native Ryan Suter joined elite company when he played in his 1,338th career NHL game on Feb. 22.

The Dallas Stars defenseman passed Adam Oates and moved into fifth place all-time in NHL games played by NCAA skaters.

Suter began his NHL career with the Nashville Predators for seven seasons, before moving on to skate 10 seasons for the Minnesota Wild. He is now in his second campaign with Dallas.

Wisconsin Badger Chris Chelios is the all-time games played leader among collegiate skaters with 1,651, while Badger Scott Mellanby ranks fourth all-time at 1,431 games.

Suter’s current Dallas teammate Joe Pavelski currently ranks No. 17 in NHL games played for a collegiate athlete with 1,226 and counting.
