BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The University of Michigan field hockey team placed 10 Wolverines on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Squad, the organization announced on Thursday (Feb. 16).
The National Academic Squad program honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher through the first semester of the 2022-23 academic year. Michigan’s honorees include Katie Begley, Zoë Bormet, Gillian Dumont, Rosie Hope, Caylie McMahon, Kathryn Peterson, Sarah Pyrtek, Lindsey Stagg, Abby Tamer and Anouk Veen.
Peterson, a neuroscience major who graduated in December, was named to the NFHCA Academic Squad for the fifth time in her career, while Begley, a history major, earned the distinction for the fourth time.
Twenty Wolverines earned the NFHCA academic accolades, a program-high number of honorees, before the NFHCA elevated the minimum GPA from 3.3 to 3.5. Michigan has placed at least nine individuals on the national academic team in each of the last six seasons. Twenty-three Wolverines, which included every eligible student-athlete on the team, previously were honored this year with Academic All-Big Ten distinction.
Additionally, the Scholars of Distinction program recognizes undergraduate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year. Michigan’s honorees include Bormet, McMahon, Stagg and Tamer.
The NFHCA will announce two more Division I academic awards this spring — the National Academic Team Awards will be released on Feb. 21 while the NFHCA Division I National Scholar-Athlete will be announced on Feb. 22.
The Wolverines posted a stellar 14-6 record in 2022, claimed its eighth Big Ten Tournament title — the most of any school — and qualified for the NCAA tournament for the 19th time and eighth season in a row.
