Connecticut Whale forward led PHF with 14 points in eight-game streak

BOSTON, MA – (February 2, 2023) – The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced that Connecticut forward Kennedy Marchment is the PHF Player of the Month for January. The league’s reigning top scorer and MVP recorded an impressive 14 points in eight games including nine goals and five assists to help the Whale climb into fourth place in the overall standings.

“It is an honor to receive Player of the Month recognition,” said Marchment. “This month has been a significant turning point for the Whale and my personal success is just a product of our team’s success.”

Marchment was the model for consistency throughout the month, producing at least one point in all eight of her January games to extend her consecutive point-streak to nine. She had four multi-point performances in total, highlighted by her first career hat-trick on Jan. 18 in a 7-3 win over the Buffalo Beauts. She also had a three-point game on Jan. 8 in a 6-0 win over the Metropolitan Riveters, scoring the opening goal that held as the game-winner plus two primary assists on the team’s next two tallies. Marchment had a pair of two-goal games including Jan. 14 in Pittsburgh despite a 5-4 loss to the Montreal Force, and again on Jan. 22 in a 4-1 win over the Toronto Six where she contributed another game-winner and her second shorthanded goal of the month. With five regulation wins in January, Connecticut claimed 15 of a possible 24 points and now hold an 8-6-1 record with 25 points overall. They sit just one point behind Minnesota for third place, and nine ahead of Montreal.

“Kennedy continues to show that she is an impact player on the Whale and throughout the league,” said Alexis Moed, Whale general manager. “Her sense and ability to start plays, set up others, and finish her own opportunities is a pleasure to watch.”

The 26-year-old from Marmora, Ontario ranks third in PHF scoring with 22 points in 15 games, including 14 goals which is tied for second overall. She has four game-winning goals this season which is tied for most across the PHF, while her 66 shots on goal are third most among skaters. In only her second PHF season, the St. Lawrence University graduate has already established herself as the franchise’s all-time leader in points and goals with 55 and 27 through 35 games to date. She’s now cracked the top-15 in all-time PHF scoring, while her 1.57 career points-per-game mark is eighth…
