Jan 24, 2023

For the past several weeks, the Rochester Americans have been front and center on the local high school hockey scene as part of a weekly series featuring the latest news and notes, scores and stats of select Section V games around the Greater Rochester Area.

This week’s High School Game of the Week features the Victor Blue Devils (10-2-0) facing off with the Greece Storm (7-7-0) tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Lakeshore Hockey Arena.

Greece enters the contest having won five of its last seven games and boast a 7-7-0 record overall through the first 14 games of the campaign. The Storm, who show a 5-1-0 mark on home ice, already matched their win total from last season with six more games to play. Of their six remaining games, the Greece Storm will play just twice more as the home team and four as the road club, which includes each of their final three games.

With three of the top seven scores in all of Division 2, Greece’s offense has produced 52 goals led by Spencer Griffin, Josh Kimble and Aidan Candalari. Griffin paces the club in goals (14), assists (14) and points (32) while Kimble has also reached double digits in goals (14). Candalari is second amongst all Storm skaters with 12 assists while both he and Kimble have 21 points each in 13 and 14 games, respectively.

Goaltender Joe Willis has appeared in all 14 games this season and shows a 7-7-0 record to go with one shutout. Stratos Triantafilou made one appearance, stopping all 11 shots he faced on Jan. 17 versus Penfield.

After splitting its first two games of the season, Victor comes into the matchup winners of nine of its last 10 games and show a 10-2-0 record overall. Last Friday’s 3-1 loss to Orchard Park snapped the Blue Devils’ season-long nine-game win streak, during which they posted five shutouts and held the opposition to two or fewer goals in each game.

Following the contest with the Greece , Victor will play three more home games and serve as the visiting team five times to close out the campaign.

Of the 23 different skaters the Blue Devils have used this season, four have reached double digits in points, led by forward Simon Kowal’s team-leading 10 goals and 19 points. Defensemen Michael Peluso (1+13) and Drew McCandless (4+8) are second and third on the club with 14 and 12 points, respectively, while Tanner Radogna is other Blue Devil to post 11 points (6+5) by skating in all 12 games.
