NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the second consecutive week, senior netminder Ryan Bischel has been named Third Star of the Week by the Big Ten Conference. Having started both games in goal for the Irish last weekend, Bischel recorded a .959 save percentage, stopping 94 of 98 shots faced, backstopping his team to the road split against No. 6/6 Penn State.

Recently named to the Mike Richter Award Watch List, awarded annually to the top collegiate goaltender, Bischel had a career performance in Friday night’s win, registering 52 saves in 60 minutes played for a .981 save percentage. After allowing one goal in the opening period of the weekend series, he went on to post 33 saves over the remaining two periods to lift his team to the 2-1 victory over the Nittany Lions in game one.

Bischel followed up his career night with 42 saves Saturday night to close out the series. His 94 saves on the weekend led the nation by 20+.

The Medina, Minnesota, native now boasts a nation’s-best 824 saves in 2022-23 while his .928 save percentage leads the Big Ten and is fifth nationally.

Fans have two more series to catch Bischel and the rest of the Irish skaters inside Compton Family Ice Arena. Tickets are available here for the Jan. 27-28 against Wisconsin and Feb. 10-11 series when they host Ohio State.
