Merel Hanssen Named to NFHCA All-West Region Second Team


EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State field hockey senior Merel Hanssen has been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-West Region Second Team, as announced by the organization Tuesday.  

The Maastricht, Netherlands native collects her second-consecutive NFHCA All-Region honor after earning the same honor last season. Hanssen, who started at midfield in every game this season for the Spartans, led MSU in points (17), registering three assists and a team-high seven goals.  

Hanssen completes her Michigan State career with 38 points, 14 goals and 10 assists. She played in 67 games over four seasons, making 63 starts. She is the first Spartan to earn consecutive NFHCA All-Region honors since Simone Vagnoni in 2016 and 2017.
