COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the fourth time this season, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association has named Ohio State’s Sophie Jaques as its Defender of the Week. Jaques tallied four points against Bemidji State last weekend to help the Buckeyes earn a series sweep of the Beavers and become the program record holder for career points by a defenseman.

The Toronto, Ont. native recorded two points in each game of Ohio State’s wins over Bemidji State last weekend at the OSU Ice Rink. She tied the program’s record for career points by a defenseman after Friday’s game and took the record for herself on Saturday. Overall, she has earned 130 points for her career on 50 goals and 80 assists.

Playing on the first line of the Buckeyes’ defense, Jaques was a key part of holding Bemidji State to just one goal and 31 shots on goal the entire series. She recorded two blocked shots against the Beavers and finished +3 on ice.

Jaques helped the Ohio State power play unit remain first in the country, scoring one of the team’s man-up goals on the weekend and assisting another. The goal was her sixth of the year on the power play. She leads the nation in power play goals and goals per game (.93). A civil engineering graduate student, Jaques is also tied for the most goals scored nationally this season with 13.

The No. 1 Buckeyes will play their final home games of 2022 this week as they host No. 6 Colgate Tuesday and Wednesday at the OSU Ice Rink. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday and 3 p.m. Wednesday. Admission and parking are free for Ohio State women’s hockey games.
