Ohio State outshot Notre Dame 13-7 in the first period, with the Irish ahead 8-5 in the second. In the third, the Buckeyes pressed, and were ahead in shots 19-3, but could not find the back of the net. Ohio State skated with the net empty for the final 2:44, and had nine shot attempts to close out the game. Notre Dame goalie Ryan Bischel made five saves in the stretch, with ND blocking a shot and the Buckeyes putting two shots wide.
Ohio State goalie Jakub Dobes made 17 saves on 18 shots in 56:56. The Buckeyes blocked 10 shots, led by forward Stephen Halliday with three and Cole McWard with two. Bischel ended the game with 37 saves for Notre Dame in all 60 minutes and the Irish blocked 18 Buckeye shot attempts.
Each team was scoreless on three power play chances. Ohio State did not allow a shot on goal during the three Irish chances, which all came in the second period.
