The Colorado Avalanche are Stanley Cup champions.

Ending the Tampa Bay Lightning’s rule atop the NHL world, the Avalanche won their third Stanley Cup in franchise history and first in 21 years with a 2-1 victory over the defending champions in Game 6 at Amalie Arena on Sunday night.

Artturi Lehkonen scored the eventual game winner with a go-ahead goal in the second period, while Nathan MacKinnon finally broke out in the NHL’s championship series by collecting a goal and two points.

Darcy Kuemper took care of 22 saves to do just enough in his duel with star netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy.
